Review: Paul & Joe Loose Powder N

Paul & Joe's Loose Powder N makes a very pretty dressing-table centrepiece... The whole set up looks really elegant and old school!

I was reminded of Disney's Cinderella where the two ugly sisters powder their faces in front of a big mirror when they hear there is a ball being held and butt each other out the way to do so (anyone remember?)

I have always wanted to do that! (Powdering my face with a large puff, not bit about butting an ugly sister out the way, I don't have a sister anyhow...)

Unfortunately my studenty self does not possess a dressing table. In fact, my loose powder lives on the side of the sink in my room. Sad I know. But it still looks pretty there.

Also, the sheer joy of patting the puff in the container every morning brightens up my whole day. No joke. I especially like it when it produces a little cloud of powder!

Anyway, enough about that.

As you can see, it comes with a little mesh sieve on top of a cardboard drum full of powder. I don't know if you can see clearly, but there are dotted lines on the drum which were meant to be cut (which I did).

To be honest, I wasn't sure if I was meant to empty the entire drum of powder out into the plastic casing, but in the end I decided not to in case I made a huge mess. Does anyone know if you're meant to? It seems to work fine without doing so. I just need to pat the puff in the container quite a few times before applying it to my own face.

In terms of the powder itself, it's very finely milled and applies quite nicely over my face. However, I tend to pat this powder onto my face as opposed to stroke it on using the puff as I'm scared of transferring foundation onto it as I'm not entirely sure how to clean it.

It's not advertised as a mattifying powder, but it does apply completely matte, (unlike the old version) and is a really nice non-cakey finishing powder. It keeps my usually oily T-zone grease free for a good couple of hours.

Regarding the scent, I usually really hate strongly scented cosmetics for the face. This powder is very strongly scented with a flowery smell, but I actually really like it! It kind of fits the appearance of the product.

Price: 3/5 - at £29 it's definitely not a cheap product.
Packaging: 5/5 - I absolutely adore the packaging! The puff is also really soft and fluffy. However if you're looking for something that you can take on holiday or travel with, this is definitely NOT for you. You actually can't keep this thing shut without tape. The case is also massive.
Oil control: 3/5 - For people like me who have oily T-zones, expect to need a touch up after a few hours.
Finish: 5/5 - I really love the finish of this product! It's matte without being 2D and cakey.
Scent: 4/5 - I also love the flowery scent of this product, but it could do with being a little less strong.

Overall: I absolutely love this product. Hopefully when I run out I can buy a refill (although Harrods no longer stocks them). Apparently you can also buy replacement puffs which I will definitely look into if I haven't worked out a way an effective way of cleaning this one yet.

Paul & Joe Beaute isn't really big here in the UK, and as mentioned previously it's quite hard to see in the flesh unless you're in London and happen to pop round Harrods (or apparently, Fenwick).

...

Anyway I hope you all had a great weekend! Mine was less than productive. I've actually just spent most of it chatting with my flatmates, and just generally messing around =_= Only like 1.5 months to HUGE exams. If I don't get working I am so much trouble....

Lunasol is cheaper in HK? Must go get them there next time! hehehe

and reg. Nars blushes, I've tried deep throat so far (which is actually really similar to orgasm, just slightly more orange, it does seem to have a lot of sparkles, but when you pat it on to the face, it seems alright! i use use a fluffy blush brush, or a stippling and i guess less is the key. I'll try to rem to do a swatch next time for ya :)

good luck with your exams coming up!
